============================================ IAU Division J Bulletin No. 2; July, 2014 ============================================ INDEX * IAU Symposia for 2015 * Reform of IAU Commissions * Computer code CIGALE * Upcoming conferences * Reports of conferences (suggested by Division members) * Call for contributions --------------------------------------------------------------------------- * IAU Symposia for 2015 The results of the selection of the IAU Symposia for 2015 are now listed on: http://www.iau.org/news/announcements/detail/ann14013/ --------------------------------------------------------------------------- * Reform of IAU Commissions: October 15, 2014 is the deadline for submitting Letters of Intent to propose new IAU Commissions. January 31, 2015 is the deadline to submit the full proposals. More details can be found at: http://www.iau.org/news/announcements/detail/ann14014/ --------------------------------------------------------------------------- * Computer code CIGALE ("Code Investigating the Galaxies Emission") (Reported by Division member Dr. Denis Burgarella) http://cigale.lam.fr This code has been developed to study the formation and evolution of galaxies by building spectral energy distributions from the Far-UV to the Far-IR including several emission sources (stars, gas, dust, AGN) and complex Star Formation Histories and dust attenuation laws. CIGALE that can be used: 1) by plugging CIGALE on, e.g., semi-analytical model: CIGALE Zero-observation; 2) or in the usual way by a comparison with observed SEDs through a PDF analysis: CIGALE Classic CIGALE is very modular, written in Python 3, and fast (parallelized). It is designed to study large samples of galaxies but, of course, can analyze a single galaxy or even (large enough) regions of galaxies. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- * Upcoming Conferences: I did not receive any announcement from members, thus, I just remind the Division J members that the list of up-coming Conferences is available at: Canadian Astronomy Data Centre --------------------------------------------------------------------------- * Report on previous meetings: Science Summer News from the International Astrophysics Daniel Chalonge School (reported by Norma G. Sanchez) This meeting was held in the historic Castle, Observatoire de Paris at Meudon, France, 4, 5 and 6 JUNE 2014 Highlights: appealing cristalization of Warm Dark Matter (WDM) results; 3.5 keV line detection in X-ray spectra of galaxy clusters; theory and plans of detection with the Astro-H X-ray Observatory; star forming signatures for WDM; lensing and high redshift WDM constraints; 21 cm line signatures; sterile neutrino detection experiments KATRIN, ECHO, HOLMES; the relic neutrino background experiment PTOLEMY; the Planck CMB data analysis is revisited and corrected with neutrinos and sterile neutrinos; non-relativistic approximation does work for Leptogenesis and baryon asymmetry with heavy neutrinos; filamentary structures, surface density and scaling laws in interstellar clouds and WDM, star and galaxy formation; galaxy equation of state, scaling laws, universal rotation curves and core profiles remarkably observed and reproduced; galaxy theory in remarkable agreement with observations includes the fermionic WDM quantum pressure. Materials related to the conference are available at: http://chalonge.obspm.fr/Cias_Meudon2014.html http://chalonge.obspm.fr/Programme_CIAS2014.html http://chalonge.obspm.fr/albumCIAS2014/index.html We thank all lecturers and participants, for having contributed so much to this Workshop and we look forward to seeing you again in the next meetings of this series. More News the 23-25 JULY 2014 in the next Meeting of the series: The 18th Paris Cosmology Colloquium Chalonge 2014 http://chalonge.obspm.fr/colloque2014.html --------------------------------------------------------------------------- * Call for contributions: If you wish to send contributions to the next Newsletter that are relevant to our Division J, please send e-mail to thaisa@ufrgs.br by *** September 20 ***. This will appear in the next Bulletin issue, in October 2014. Thank you in advance for your inputs and best regards.
