First GDR meeting in Paris, October 9, 2008
For the first meeting of this group, we selected a subject that:
is of interest to different aspects of atmospheric studies (atmospheric sounding of temperature, water vapor, and trace gases, cloud/rain retrieval, planetary atmospheres)
is the object of several satellite mission projects
is technologically challenging
More than 30 participants from 18 different labs attended this one-day meeting (see the participant list attached). In the millimeter and sub-millimeter domains, long-term collaborations have been set up between different French labs and the European community, both on scientific and technical aspects. Experts from other countries have been invited to present their work and views to this meeting and several European labs were represented (CSIC, Spain; RAL, UK; University of Lulea, Sweden; University of Chalmers, Sweden).
The program of the meeting included several presentations and a discussion, the objective being to favor exchanges among participants. The invited talks tended to cover the different aspects of the millimeter and sub-millimeter domains. The report of the meeting is downloadable below. It gives a short summary of each presentation. The participant list is included at the end of the report . The full presentations are available on the page “Documents” .
Second Workshop on Remote Sensing and Modelling of Surface Properties, Météo-France, Toulouse,
9-11 June, 2009
The 2nd Workshop on Remote Sensing and Modelling of Surface Properties was
organised at Météo-France, Toulouse, on 9-11 June, 2009
The workshop was attended by more than 70 participants from 17 countries. During the workshop 56 oral presentations were given in addition to a dozen posters. The main objectives of this workshop were:
-improvement of the inclusion of surface emissivity calculations for the assimilation of surface sensitive sounding observations.
-assimilation of new satellite observations in land surface models (SMOS, ASCAT).
The GdR participated in the organisation of this workshop and has sponsored the trips of 5 students, from France or abroad. The conclusions of this meeting will be available soon on the workshop webpage. The individual presentations are already available at : http://cimss.ssec.wisc.edu/itwg/groups/rtwg/meetings/sfcem/2009/
Third GdR Workshop on Atmospheric Water Vapor Estimation by Space-Borne Radiometry, Observatoire de Paris, 06 October, 2010
The 3rd GdR Workshop was organised at Observatoire de Paris, on 06 October, 2010
The workshop was attended by more than 25 participants. During the workshop, 12 oral presentations were given, followed by discussions between the participants. These presentations are available for download in the Documents section of this website. The workshop report is available bellow :
Fourth GdR Workshop on Modelling and Observation of Ocean Surface Microwave Remote Sensing, Observatoire de Paris, 09 November, 2011
The 4th GdR Workshop was organised at Observatoire de Paris, on November 9, 2011. The workshop was attended by more than 20 participants. During the workshop, 8 oral presentations were given, followed by discussions between the participants. These presentations are available for download in the Documents section of this website. The workshop report is available below :
Fifth GdR Workshop on “Ice clouds observed by microwaves”, Observatoire de Paris, 17 April, 2014
The 5th GdR Workshop was organised at Observatoire de Paris, on April 17, 2014, about remote sensing of ice clouds from satellites. It focused on the microwave observations, both passive and active, but the synergy with the visible and infrared measurements were also discussed. The workshop was attended by more than 25 participants. 11 oral presentations were given, followed by discussions between the participants. Minutes of the meeting are available below, in French and in English. The presentations are available for download in the Documents section of this website.
The 3rd International Sub-Millimeter Airborne Radiometer (ISMAR) workshop , Observatoire de Paris, 28-30 September, 2015
The 3rd International Sub-Millimeter Airborne Radiometer (ISMAR) workshop was organized by LERMA at Observatory of Paris on 28-30 September 2015. The objectives of the workshop were :
- To provide to the European community working on sub-millimeter wave radiometry a status of the instrument itself, on its upcoming technical developments, on future ISMAR-dedicated field campaigns and on possible collaboration with other international measurement campaigns
- To discuss on the ISMAR observations collected during its first research flights,
- To present preliminary results on the analysis of the first ISMAR data,
- To discuss on the way forward for the preparation of Ice Cloud Imager (ICI) using ISMAR.
The workshop consisted in a series of technical and scientific presentations, all related to ISMAR and its potential use in specific field campaigns. Activities related to HALO Microwave Pack (HAMP) were also presented. The list of participants is given in Annex A. The program is available in Annex B.
