A true-color composite image of the
Large Magellanic Cloud H II region N159 as seen by the Hubble's Wide
Field Planetary Camera 2 (WFPC2), based on images taken with filters
H-alpha (red), [OIII] (green), and H-beta (blue). The high excitation
compact object lying towards the center of the image is N159-5 or the
Papillon nebula. Click
here in order to get an enlarged view of it.
Note how the powerful winds from the young massive stars sweep the
surrounding ionized gas into arc and filaments. The field size is
about 130 light-years.
