Résumé :
The launch of the HST in 1990 was the culmination of the efforts of
many people over a period that began with the feasibility studies in 1971.
During this time the program evolved from a 3-m NASA institutional
facility into a finished 2.4-m telescope operated by a consortium of
universities for astronomers throughout the USA and Europe. As the
Project Scientist during the period that the science structure was
established and most of the construction of the HST occurred, I will
give an science-insider's view of how the observatory came to be what
it is today.
