The Faulkes Telescopes Project
Paul Roche, Richard Beare
The Faulkes Telescopes Project will be running two fully robotic, 2-metre telescopes equipped with 2048x2048 pixel CCD cameras, broad and narrow band filter sets, and located at professional observatory sites in Hawaii and Australia from mid-2003. Accessible via the web, they will offer UK schools a unique opportunity to participate in "live" observations during the school day. Students will participate in research projects, mentored by professional astronomers around the UK, covering topics including monitoring the orbits and rotation of NEO's, morphologically classifying large numbers of galaxies and carrying out the first detailed surveys of many PN and Open Clusters.
