"Educational activities using spectroscopy: The case of the INES Archive"
E. Solano, R. Gutiérrez, B. Montesinos, C. Morales, J. García, L. Sanz
Is a spectroscopy archive attractive for the public? People love
images, that's a reality, so, how can spectra compete with an archive
full of nice pictures of astronomical objects of different types? What is the beauty of
1-D graphic representations? We have tried to answer all these questions by
bringing to light all the potentiality hidden under spectra and the many ways
they can be used to teach and learn about the astrophysical phenomena.
Within the framework of a project aiming at developing an uniform, multi-mission
interface to astronomical archives, we are currently working on educational
activities (examples, practical cases,..) that can be used by people with as
many level of interest and skills as possible, going from a very basic
introduction about spectroscopy to real cases of usage of archive data to solve
astrophysical problems.
In this presentation, the guidelines of the project will be described.
