Research Interest

Instrumentation of mm and submm receiver systems:
- We are building CONDOR, an astronomical receiver operational at 1.4 THz.
- For my Ph.D. I built two Water Vapour Monitors for interferometric phase correction. (PS File of Thesis)
Sub-millimetre and millimetre observational studies of gas in star forming regions, in particular starburst galaxies.
- Interferometric study of molecular gas and dust in Arp220. (Paper in ADS)
- Molecular gas around the Double Nucleus in M83.
Study of the Earth atmosphere at (sub)mm wavelenght, in particular the distribution of water in all of its forms.
- Interferometric phase correction and water vapour monitors. (Paper in ADS)
- Studies of water vapour using the Water Vapour Monitors (talk in German)
- Fourier Transform Spectroscopy to study the transmission of the atmosphere at submm wavelengths.
- Analysis of meterological satellite data of cyclons and comparison with model predictions.

Research Experience

Nachwuchsgruppenleiterin Feb 2003 - now at the 1.Physikalisches Insitut at the Universitaet zu Koeln. Heading the A6 group within the SFB 494 , where we are building a 1.4 THz receiver and conducting related astronomy in the areas of massive star formation, deuterium chemistry and the warm interstellar medium.
Postdoc Nov 2002 - Jan 2003 at the Observatoire de Paris in the LERMA group on atmospheric models to analyse satellite observations of the earth atmosphere, in particular cyclones.
Postdoc Oct 1998 - Oct 2002 at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics working on Submillimeter Array on Mauna Kea, Hawaii.

Education

Ph.D. (Physics) Oct 1994 - June 1998 from the University of Cambridge , where I was a memeber of the Mullard Radio Astronomy Observatory (MRAO). During my Ph.D. I build two water vapour monitors for the CSO-JCMT interferometer. My thesis is entitled Atmospheric Water Vapour and Astronomical Millimetre Interferometry.
Diplom (Physics) I obtained from the University of Karlsruhe after 5 years of Physics undergraduate studies in Heidelberg (2 years), Moscow State University (1 year), University of Cambridge (1 year) and University of Karlsruhe (1 year).
I enjoyed Lester B. Pearson College for my last two years of high school.
